Rapide Steam Cylinder Engine Oils are specialty oils engineered with special high-viscosity oils and base stocks to deliver a higher level of performance and an extra layer of protection in the locomotive and other steam engine applications subjected to superheated or saturated water environments. These compounded oils have the capability to provide intense steam engine and steam cylinder lubrication in environments where condensed water from wet steam may be present. This cylinder oil is resistant to water washout and does not lose its required properties even if wet conditions are encountered for prolonged periods of time.  

Applications

This high-viscosity steam cylinder oil is recommended to be used in all steam cylinder and engine applications subjected to intensive operational speed and temperatures. It satisfies the requirements of the steam cylinder 355, 460, 680, and 1000 lubrication specifications and is suitable for the cylinder and steam engine couplings, bearings, and break-in of compressor cylinders, and splash lubrication of enclosed worm gears.
